Beat Presser
Beat Presser (* 14 July 1952 in Basel ) is a
Swiss photographer.
Already at the age of 15 Presser decided to be a photographer.
In 1972 he undertook a multi - month trip around the world - Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia.
His first photo exhibition "Daydreams and Nightmares" was 1976 in the Daniel Blaise Thorens Gallery in Basel.
After that he was in Paris for various
Fashion photographer and moved the Fotomagazin
Palm Beach News (later The Village Cry).
1979 Presser go to Bangkok, where he worked as an advertising agencyCreative Director. Then he returnedEurope, where he has worked with Cyrille Kazis, Jacques Herzog, Pierre de Meuron, and Mischa Schaub.
In the 1980s, Presser worked closely with the director Werner Herzog and the actor Klaus Kinski together. He documented the origin
The films Fitzcarraldo (1982) and Cobra Verde (1987).
The collaboration with Herzog and Kinski
was the basis of several of Presser
published illustrated books and exhibitions, with which he went on a tour all over the world.
His first book, Coming Attractions, was published in 1983
1988 followed several stays in Madagascar. Together with his life companion Vera Pechel
The photographic history From fire to religion.
The work was launched in Basel, Berlin, Bordeaux,
Stuttgart, Worpswede and Dakar.
Presser Hiking Exhibition Andohahela was founded in 2001 in twelve cities in Madagascar and moved over 100,000 visitors. In September 2003 Presser received
The Hasselblad Masters Fotopreis.
